Frequently asked questions

HMRC says I’m not authorised or not signed up

This message means your HMRC account isn’t signed up for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax yet. Connecting your HMRC account to Tofflo is not enough on its own — you (or your agent) must first sign up with HMRC. Follow HMRC’s guidance at Sign up for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, then come back to the app and tap Retry.

How do I connect or reconnect my HMRC account?

When you sign in without an HMRC connection, the app shows the Connect to HMRC screen — tap Connect HMRC Account and sign in with your Government Gateway user ID. You can check the connection at any time in Settings → HMRC Connection, which shows whether you are connected and lets you disconnect. If you disconnect, the app returns you to the Connect to HMRC screen so you can reconnect whenever you are ready.

How do I cancel my Tofflo Pro subscription?

It depends on where you subscribed:

When you cancel, you keep Tofflo Pro until the end of the billing period you have already paid for. See our Terms of Use for full details.

I subscribed on iOS but the app says I’m on the free plan

On iOS, open the upgrade screen in the app and tap Restore Purchases. This re-checks your Apple Account and restores an active Tofflo Pro subscription — for example after reinstalling the app or switching to a new device.

How do I get a refund?

How do I delete my account and data?

In the app, go to Settings → Delete Account and confirm. Deletion is immediate and irreversible. If you cannot access the app, email [email protected]. Full details of what is deleted are on our Delete Account page.

What income types does Tofflo support?

Today, Tofflo supports UK property income — the full journey for UK landlords, from record keeping to sending quarterly updates to HMRC and completing your tax return. Support for sole trader (self-employment) income, PAYE employment income, UK interest, UK dividends, and state and private pensions is planned for April 2027, when the £30,000 threshold wave of Making Tax Digital for Income Tax begins.
